Why the dealer route gets expensive
If you’ve lost every key, the dealer usually needs the car on their lot. That can mean a tow, an appointment, a wait for parts and a day or more without your car.
A mobile locksmith brings the cutting and programming equipment to you, so the car never leaves the driveway.
How a new key is made when you have none
We can originate a brand new key using your VIN and the lock itself, then program it to your car’s computer on site. Bring proof that the car is yours, like the registration or title with your ID.
It works for cars, trucks, SUVs and vans, foreign and domestic: standard metal keys, transponder chip keys and high security keys.
What it costs
Standard cut keys start at $45. Transponder chip keys, which have to be programmed to your car, start at $175. Smart keys and push to start fobs start at $200, key included for most vehicles.
In most cases that’s 30 to 50% less than the dealership, with no towing bill on top.
Which key do you have?
Older cars often use a plain metal key. Most cars from the late 1990s on use a transponder chip in the key head. Newer cars may use a flip key, a remote head key or a proximity smart key with push button start.
Not sure? Snap a photo of a spare or your ignition and send it when you ask for help.
Once you’re back on the road
Get a second key made the same day. It costs far less than going through this again. See spare and duplicate keys.
